“For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” (1 Cor. 2:2)
In our modern world many of us are experiencing "Information Overload". We have phones, tablets, and computers that instantly provide all the information we require, and then some. Apparently there is something about human nature that craves information. We are intrigued by the latest headlines, “juicy” stories or even the latest gossip.
While there is nothing inherently wrong with being "in the know", we must beware of allowing our faith and commitment to Jesus Christ to get "lost in the shuffle."
The Apostle Paul wisely reminded Christians in Corinth that he was determined to know nothing among them except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I admire that mindset, and believe that all Christians would do well to adopt it. Although Paul expressed concern about divisiveness and other injurious issues within the church, his primary concern boiled down to one thing - Jesus Christ. His mission was to proclaim Christ to a lost and dying world. His passion was to spread the gospel so that everyone might have the opportunity to obtain eternal life in Jesus Christ.
What about us? Are we more concerned with the latest information related to the economy, politics or sports than spreading the gospel of Christ? Are we focused on the latest headlines and trends more than with teaching the lost about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
It’s time that we make Jesus Christ the center of our attention. It’s time we make our Lord and King the reason for everything we do. We might even win lost souls to Christ by doing so.
Jesus, always Jesus!
